EASTER RETREAT 2019

CALVARY IS BIBLE CHURCH
13 UKWANSI STREET ABAKALIKI
EASTER RETREAT 2019
DATE: 19TH – 21ST APRIL, 2019
THEME:          DEALING WITH YOUR ESAU
TOPIC:            ASK, SEEK AND KNOCK
Text:                GEN. 32:1-30; Matt. 7:7-11

INTRODUCTORY MESSAGE:
Dealing with your Esau
For any man to enter into God’s purpose for His life, he needs to deal with the Esau of his lives. Jacob had been a clever man, used cleverness to collect Esau’s’ birthright Gen. 25:29-34. He ran for 21 years unto Laban his uncle but that could not remove Esau on his way. Esau had vowed that whenever he shall see Jacob He shall kill him; Gen. 27:41, Jacob had to run away from the wrought of Esau.

Ever before a man will enter into the land of promise in his life, or enter into his rest or before you will become what God wants you to become, there is an Esau. If there is any sin Jacob lived to remember or any offence he was trying to cover up in his life or whom he cheated to become something; it was Esau. As far as Esau was not dealt with, Jacob will only be a walker about abroad. As far as he has not confronted it, he can only dwell outside the land of God’s promise for his life. He could only pretend it does not exist or even run away from it though may have a lot of possessions and riches, yet he cannot come into fulfillment of God’s purpose in his life if his Esau has not been dealt with. The Lord needed to tell Jacob to go home; how long will he dwell in a strange land which cannot make him to begin to advance God’s purpose for his life to be where God has planned for him which though had all material possessions yet he was not where God has planned for his life.

A man that needs to enter into God’s purpose for his live may encounter an Esau waiting at the gate of his destiny. No matter how successful you can be in a strange land, a wonderful preacher or how God have spoken about you or planning to use you or anoint you; when you are ready to be serious with your destiny, eternity; you will be ready to confront your Esau.

Any man that is not ready to confront his Esau in his life no matter the droves available to him, you will remain in exile as far as God’s purpose for your life is concern until you deal with your Esau.

What are those Esau’s that makes a man become outside the purpose of God for his live;
·        Sins you do not confess
·        Character/sin we are struggling with
·        Discouragement
·        Unbelief
·        Restitutions to be made
·        Fear
·        Inferiority complex
·        Self will
·        Etc.
Jacob lived for 21 years without knowing there was an Esau waiting for him. Before you can begin to find identity for your life and have fulfillment, dealing with our Esau is essential if you want God to settle you. Our various Esau’s differs. The Esau you don’t uproot becomes storms that can grow back and destroy whatever plastering you make on that ground.
There are Esau’s that will not pursue you to the bush or around but wait for you at the gate of your destiny no matter what you have achieved like Jacob. God has secured certain privileges for us, at the gate (a step inside), Esau is saying ‘please you have not dealt with my case’

The Esau you do not uproot, as you grows it also grows. When Jacob offended Esau, he was only one but after 21 years, he was coming to him with 400 strong men. Esau was 40 years old as well as Jacob when Jacob deceived him, after 21 years they both where 61 years. The Esau you leave noe can become more complicated and stronger tomorrow. It does not matter how you have grown in your ministry.
Also, when the children of Israelites was about going to the promise land and needed to pass through Mount Seir (Edom) – Esau descendant, they refused that made the Israelite to divert through the wilderness for forty years before entering into the promise land. They murmured along the way and God was wrath with them. There problem can be traceable to be dealing with Esau.

When Jacob discovered that money and gifts could not do anything; for Esau said I have enough, he divided his men in batches (droves), yet Esau was still coming; his wisdom of deception to allow others to die and he will have the opportunity to escape if anything happen was still playing. He used wisdom of cleverness to also take numerous possessions from his uncle Laban. He also knew that Leah the elder daughter was to be married first and asked for the second, Rachel.
Finally, he needed to pray Gen. 32:11 when he has tried all he could to remove Esau humanly possible but could not, he said the Lord to deliver him from Esau. It was that prayer that brought the angel of God to come and wrestle with him. For God to conquer any of our Esau, He must need to first conquer us. Jacob needed to answer the right answer when he was asked his real name. It was not Jacob but taking account of his life and deceptive nature and previous encountered. God gave him a name: Israel meaning As a prince, you have power with God, then you will prevail with men. A man that have not power with God will not have power to live among men. To have power with God is to be conquered by God to the extent that between you and God nothing will separate you again. A man with an uninterruptable relationship with God.
After this encounter in Gen. 33:1-….., Esau problem was settled, all fighting has been done.

In like manner, in this our Easter program, for you to benefit maximally and gain the resurrection power of Jesus, what is that Esau in your life that has been a night mare to you. You need to deal with them; is it sin, unforgiveness, or one problem or the other. You need to pray rightly and ask God in prayer to remove them for you to enter into God’s purpose for your live.

In the same vein, to proper take this study further, we need to consider the medium to gain into the presence of God and taking our inheritance by Asking, seeking and knocking.

TOPIC: ASK, SEEK AND KNOCK

INTRODUCTION:
Christ death has a significant in the life of every child of God. 1 Cor. 1:18; Rom. 1:16 For we are saved through His death to be raised unto newness of life. The resurrection power as stated by Paul makes a man to work in victory over sins and dominion in life Rom. 6:3, 4, 6-7, 9, 11; Gal. 2:20. The Lord has decided through this program according to His word in obedient of the kingdom principal as stated by Christ on Asking, Seeking And Knocking; we shall have access to the divine riches of the Lord as has been brought to us through Christ 2 Pet. 1:3. As we shall be asking from the Lord what will He want us to do (Acts 9:6) as you will be encountering you in this meeting as in the case of Apostle Paul, believe the lord in showing you what He really wants from you. Different aspect of asking of the Lord are noticeable as in the quest of answering the call of God upon your lives which not necessary be material needs.
The Lord shall not only meet your material needs but will satisfy our unquenchable desire to know Him more. It takes a man that will pour down his life on the altar of sacrifice for the Lord, that He the Lord will be willing to ask him: saying; ask anything from me, and I will do it. That will be someone visitation in this program.
In the same vein, him that will seek the Lord shall surely find Him in the program and receive the power over any sin and inherent character that may be revenging such soul Phil. 3:10. To him that knocks; the door of the Lord shall be open unto him as the Lord is ever ready to open us up unto Himself and open the door of heaven to whosoever wills.

Also, this is part of instruction for holy and godly living in the kingdom of God as taught by the Lord on the mount. It cannot be over emphasized that every child of the kingdom must pay close attention to these instructions and cultivate this attitude and lifestyle of the kingdom. If we must please God and possess our kingdom possessions, now is the time to cry to God in prayer and work on our lives and character until we become conformed to Christ’s lifestyle.
May the Lord grant you an understanding heart as you study on?

To further understand this topic, we shall be considering the following sub-theme;
1.         WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO ASK, SEEK AND KNOCK
            Matt. 21:22; Phil. 4:6; Psa. 27:4; Matt. 13:44-46; Lk. 15:8; Rev. 3:20
In order to get our needs met as children of the kingdom, the instruction is ask, seek and knock. Nothing happens except in answer to your asking, seeking and knocking in prayer. To neglect this instruction is to suffer unnecessary lack and eventually fail to accomplish God’s call on our lives.
Even though God knows our needs, He has given us the privilege to ask, seek and knock for them to be granted us. We have a part to play and God has a part to play too in this.
When we play our part by asking, God plays His part by granting our request so that we can             receive it. When we ‘seek’, God plays His part by showing us what we are looking for so that   we can find it. And when we ‘knock’, God plays His part by opening the door so that we can           enter in.
Asking involves making a definite request while seeking involves a strong desire for something, leading us to a definite search for it. It is clear that we only search for things that are precious, things that we can regard as treasures. When something is not a treasure, you do not bother to get it. Even if you have it and it eventually gets lost, you will not have an inner urge to search for it.

Therefore, before we can truly ‘seek’ for something, it must become a treasure to us. We may even be willing to sell all that we have to get it. Seeking is also involved when we lose a treasure in order to find it. Furthermore, we only knock when we have a desire to have something which has been kept behind locked doors.

Precious things are normally kept behind locked doors. They are not found outside or on the surface. Knocking alerts the one inside to open the door so that we may enter in and get what we need.

2.         DISCUSS THE IMPLICATIONS OF THIS INSTRUCTION ON OUR LIVES AND OUR OPERATIONS IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD
Jn. 15:4-5; Isa. 45:15; Col. 2:3; Prov. 25:2; Psa. 24:7; Psa. 62:8; 78:23-24; Rev. 3:7-8; Lk. 11:5-8
We are made to depend on God, not to be independent. You are a co-laborer with God over your life and your operations in the kingdom. It is therefore necessary to understand this and abide by His instructions.
The Lord delights in hiding Himself and His treasures are hidden in Him. That is one of the things He does in order for Him to be glorified as God. If you do not know how to seek for the Lord and search for Him with all your heart, you may not find Him or know Him. His knowledge comes to us only by seeking.
The treasures of the Lord are kept under lock and key and He is the only one that holds the key. There is no duplicate kept elsewhere. There is need for us to knock in order for the door to be opened, and to seek for what we need in order to find it. All this is done in the place of prayer. Our needs whether spiritual or physical, personal needs or needs that confront us in fulfilling our call, will only be met as we learn to ask, seek and knock.
3.         DISCUSS THE VARIOUS EXAMPLES OF:
A.        What to Ask for, Why?
Jn. 15:7; Matt. 7:9-11; Psa. 2:8; Lk. 11:13; Jas. 1:5; 4:2; Jn. 3:27; Jer. 6:16
Whatsoever we need for life and for kingdom service falls under this instruction. The food we need for our physical sustenance, the souls in the nations to win for Jesus, the Holy Spirit, wisdom, the way and the path to walk in etc are all what to ask for. Without asking, there shall be no receiving.
A man can receive nothing unless it is given to him from heaven. Wishful thinking, strong desire to have and fighting to have, are not the same as ‘asking’. Until you ask, you have not asked. Ask, and it shall be given you.
What have you identified as your needs? Whether spiritual or physical, ask. Stop wishing; stop envying. The Lord is thinking about you and is zealously driving away dogs from the bread He has been keeping from you Mrk. 7:27; He is only waiting for you to ask. He that made your body, will He not provide the food needed to sustain it? He that gave you a call, will He not provide what you need to fulfill it? Be not unbelieving, says the Lord. Ask.

B.        Treasures to seek after. Why?
Isa. 55:6; Prov. 8:17; Psa. 34:14; Prov. 2:1-7; Jer. 5:1; Jn. 5:39; Matt. 6:33; Col. 3:1; Heb. 4:16; 1 Cor. 2:7-9
The Lord is the first and only object of our search. All other things are secondary and are only necessary because they will help us in finding the Lord. Peace is not found on the surface. It is not easy to get. It must be deliberately sought after, whether peace with God or with men.
Revelation from God’s word, the wisdom of God, the kingdom of God, things that are above (heavenly things), the grace of God etc are all normally hidden. God deliberately hides them away probably so that careless people and ‘dogs’ will not easily come by them. It is an honor for us to seek the Lord and His treasures diligently with all our hearts. He that seeks finds.
C.        Doors to Knock, Why?
Jn. 10:1-2, 9; Rev. 3:7; Hos. 2:15; 2 Cor. 2:12; Col. 4:3; Psa. 78:23-28; 24:7; 118:19-20; 119:18; 2 Cor. 3:15-16

The Lord owns the sheep. Christians are the sheep of His pasture and He keeps us secured in His pavilion under lock and key. If you desire to serve the Lord among His people, you must knock in prayer before the door of ministry will be opened to you.

Even all nations are under His authority. He is the one who has the keys of David, who opens and no one shuts, who shuts and no one opens. If you knock, He can open doors of ministry to you among nations to bring them into the kingdom. Such was the experience of Paul with the Lord. The door of utterance and the door of faith are all doors to be knocked upon in order for them to be opened.

There are other doors that must be entered through knocking in order to receive what God has kept in store for our personal lives. These include door of righteousness and the door of our spiritual eyes in order to gain insight into the word of God.

The man who knocks is the one that will make definite progress both in life and in ministry. Knock and the door will be opened to you, says the Lord.

God has reasons for instructing us to ask, seek and knock. To get things done here on earth and to live a normal progressive, fulfilling Christian life; these spiritual buttons must be presses as often as necessary. This is an important part of kingdom lifestyle.
May you not be presumptuous In Jesus’ name, Amen.

EASTER RETREAT 2018

CALVARY IS REAL BIBLE CHURCH
#13 UKWANSI STREET, ABAKALIKI
EASTER RETREAT 2018 (30TH TO 1ST APRIL, 2018)

THEME: DEVOTION TO THE ONENESS OF THE BODY OF CHRIST
INTRODUCTION
We discovered that one thing that made God to move with the disciples of old and to manifest His power through their lives the way He did, was their devotion to God’s word. They devoted themselves to search and study scriptures, to obey it and live by it and also to teach it and preach it. As a result, the word of God increased and they disciples multiplied so greatly that many cities and nations were affected by their lives.
Here, we shall press on to look at their devotion to the oneness of the body of Christ and to fellowship. Our prayer is that our commitment to the Lord in this respect will not be less than that of the disciples of old, but that indeed it shall be greater so that we may experience God’s move even better than the way they did In Jesus name, Amen.
TEACHING ONE
1. The disciples of old devoted themselves to the oneness of the body of Christ.
a. What does it mean to be devoted to oneness of the body of Christ?
Eph. 4:3; Acts 6:1-5

b. What is the scriptural basis of unity of the body of Christ?
Eph. 4:4-6; Col. 3:11; 1:27

c. Discuss the seven dimension of oneness raised in Ephesians 4. How does it affect our devotion to the oneness of the body of Christ?

From our previous study on the meaning of devotion, we saw that the word “devotion” means to have constant love for, and loyalty to something or somebody. So to be devoted to the oneness of the body of Christ means to constantly love and be loyal to the oneness of the body of Christ, to be committed to it and to spend a lot of time and effort on ensuring oneness in the body of Christ.
Note how the twelve apostles handled the division that was beginning to brood in the midst of the disciples in Acts 6:1. Being committed to their unity, they delegated part of the work to other disciples, the fire of division was quenched, unity was restored and the Lord continues to move mightily among them. Revival stops when there is division among God’s people, unity enhances the move of the Spirit.
We have a reason to be united in the body of Christ. The reason or basis of oneness of the body of Christ is the fact that there is only one body, not two. There is one Spirit and we all share in that one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism and one God who is the father of us all and He is in us all. Christ in you and Christ in me, is the hope of unity because Christ cannot disagree with Christ; Christ is not divided. It is the flesh that brings division (1 Cor. 3: 1-4). This understanding of the indwelling of Christ in you is very important and it is what to pursue as a lifestyle, in other to be able to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
QUESTIONS
1. What do we understand by oneness of the Body of Christ?
2. How can our devotion affect the oneness of the Body of Christ?
3. Give examples of our attitudes that can ensure unity in the oneness of the body of Christ?
TEACHING TWO
2. What does it mean for a human body to be one and not divided, and for a house to be united and not divided? 1 Cor. 12:12-26; Mrk. 3:24-26.
If the human body is divided, what happens to the part that is cut off which has become independent? What happens to the remaining part?
“…And a house divided itself cannot stand..Mk. 3:25”
And we are the temple of God. Christ has likened the church (in functioning) to the human body, and as such there will be no progress or peace if the members riot against one another. Devotion to the oneness of the body is the only rational thing to do if we truly seek the growth of the kingdom of God on earth.
3. Discuss the advantages of unity in the Body of Christ in a locality and in general. Gen. 11:5-6; Matt. 18:19; Psa. 133:1-3; Jn. 17:20-21
What did you discover? What is your experience about this among the believers in your locality?
When a group of people are united, the Lord God says there is nothing they propose to do that will be withheld from them (even if that thing is really not in line with God’s will). That is the power of unity when God’s people are united, God commands His blessing on them, their prayers are answered and their Christian witness in the community becomes effective. Unity of the body of Christ in any locality makes people around them to believe in Christ more easily. The reverse is the case when there is disunity for whatever reason.
QUESTIONS
1. Can a church with different divisions, segregation and independent attitude among its members stand? Explain.
2. Give examples of our activities that can cause riot or disunity in the Body of Christ?
3. What are the numerous benefits obtainable in a church where there is unity and the Body of Christ in general?

TEACHING THREE
4. Discuss the practical ways in which you can prove your devotion to the unity of the Body of Christ on a constant basis.
Rom. 12:3-6; Jn. 15:5-6; Eph. 4:1-3; Phil. 2:1-9 (KJV, MSG);Col. 3:11 (LB); 1 Cor. 3:1-7, 17; Jn. 17:20-23
None of us must be presumptuous as to think you can do everything that needs to be done in the Body of Christ. You are not the Body of Christ, you are only a part of it; and you have been given only a measure of faith and grace. Whatever makes you to think you can separate yourself from the Body of Christ and stand aside even in your locality, will only make you wither as a branch that is cut off; it will also render the Body of Christ in that locality ineffective.
Therefore think soberly; humble yourself. Let the mind of Christ be in you. Be ready to serve, esteeming the other person better than you.
If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if His love has made any difference in your   life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care…
then do me a favour: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends.
Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help            others get ahead.
Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a          helping hand. Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of Himself. (Phil. 2:1-5 MSG)

Do not take part in dividing the Body of Christ. Rather pray for its oneness as Jesus did and be devoted to keep it united. Do not destroy it, for it is the Temple of God. Whosoever destroys the Temple of God, him shall God destroy.
QUESTIONS
1. How can one separate himself from the Body of Christ?
2. Can one that is self centered and allows only his/her will to prevail stand right in the Body of Christ? And what is its implication to the unity of the Body of Christ?
3. Give practical examples on how we can prove our devotion to the oneness of the Body of Christ?
TEACHING FOUR
5. Discuss the devotion of the disciples to oneness among them. What did you discover? Acts 1:12-14; 2 :1-4, 42-27; 4:24, 32-37; 5:12-16; 6:1-7; 12:1-11
What was the effect of their oneness on their lives and on the work of God in their time?
Note the repeated use of the phrase; “one accord” in the above scriptures. They did not allow any disagreement into their hearts and into their midst. And as they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayers, they became one in their understanding of scriptures. They believed alike, understood alike and became one even in their material possessions and they devoted themselves unto keeping that unity.

Every trace of disunity that tried to creep in among them was promptly, scripturally and effectively handled. The result was that great grace upon them all. The word of God increased, disciples multiplied and a great number of priest became obedient to the faith. God did great miracles among them and His work progressed rapidly among them. Indeed, how blessed it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! For there, God commands His blessings.

The scarcity of the word of God and abundance of errors in our time is an indication of disunity in the Body of Christ in our nation and in the nations. Genuine move of the Holy Spirit and His miraculous manifestations are very scarce. Disciples indeed are not many in our time and the Church and the name of the Lord is being greatly reproached, all because of disunity in the Body of Christ. This House of God is fragmented; so the church is exposed to a lot of hardship from the scorching heat of the sun, storms and the attacks of the enemy who takes advantage of the gaps in our midst. The serpent creeps in without any hindrance. If this situation will be reversed, for us to experience revival, we must get committed to the unity of the Body of Christ even in our locality and allow nothing and no man to divide us. As a person it is important for you to commit yourself to this as a devotion.

QUESTIONS
1. How did the apostles devote themselves to achieve oneness among them and in the Body of Christ?
2. How can we handle difficulties that can be faced by the church as the apostles did?
3. Explain the different disunity that are obtainable in the Body of Christ in the world today and in Nigeria?
4. In what ways can the oneness of the Body of Christ achieved in the World?

EASTER RETREAT 2017

EASTER RETREAT 2017(14 to 16th April, 2017)
CALVARY IS REAL BIBLE CHURCH
#13 UKWANSI STREET, ABAKALIKI

THEME: SHARING IN THE RESURRECTION POWER OF JESUS

TOPIC:          THE PRICE OF POSSESSING GOD
INTRODUCTION:
There are many things that people run after and possess in this life. Some possess money, other possess power. Yet there are others who diligently seek to possess academic excellence, fame etc. In this study, we shall focus our hearts on gaining or winning Christ and possessing Him in our lives as our inheritance. We shall seek to understand what such pursuit of the most high entails and what it Implies for us in this life, what we must necessarily give up or do in order to possess that which looks invisible to the human eye and yet so real.
In considering this matter, we shall again look intently into the lives of some Bible characters who experienced God in some discernable ways, saints of old who sought to possess something (above all else) beyond what the eyes of canal men could see. It was this propelling force that kept them all through their pilgrimage.
May the Lord open the eyes of your heart to see (in the course of this study) the real portion being offered you in the land of the living. May He cause you to pursue Him with all your heart and mind and strength till He becomes your possession in Jesus name Amen.
We discovered so far, that no man gained and won this exceedingly great reward the Almighty God Himself, who did not pay the price. In this our Easter Retreat, we shall be examining in details, the cost of gaining Christ as our own portion in life. May the Lord grant you understanding and grant you grace to pay the price.
1.      THE PRICE OF THE RICH YOUNG RULER IN POSSESSING GOD; Mk. 10:17-24; Lk. 14:25-33
Let us consider and contribute based on this scriptures read above.
a)      Analyze the story carefully. What are the ‘good but insufficient’ qualities in his life for possessing God?
What does this imply for us today?
Note that the man was zealous. He ran to meet Jesus. He had reverence for the Lord, though he had a high position in the society. He had a good language of worship and was inquisitive about the matter of eternal life. All these are good qualities. Moreover, he was obedient to God consistently in keeping the commandments. He was eager to hear the Lord. He asked the Lord what he must do to inherit eternal life (indicating prayerfulness).
Jesus loved him but that did not make Him to wave that single condition for eternal life for that man. Though he did the best he knew, he lacked one thing. He had good qualities in his life but they are not sufficient to bring anyone into possessing God and having eternal life.

b)      “One thing thou lackest” – which is enough to disqualify a man from possessing God (Vs. 21).
Discuss this one thing along with the conditions for discipleship in Lk. 14:26-33; 9:23-27; 57-62; Matt. 10:34-38.
There are specific issues of self life in specific persons apart from the general issues. Let God deal with your own. Some may say salvation is by grace and that God will overlook the issues of self and whatever they hold tightly to and save them. This is wrong because grace teaches us to say ‘no’ to ungodliness, it does not pamper or accept sin.
The conditions for inheriting eternal life are the same as the conditions for discipleship. The man was rich physically and self-righteous. He was rich by name, age, social status etc. He possessed these riches. The truth however is that it is what a man possess that possesses him. If God must possess him and he would possess God, he must dispossess himself of all he possesses.
c)      What is self? How can it rob us of our divine heritage? Discuss. Jer. 17:5-8; Gal. 5:17, 19-21
Self is a close imitator of the Spirit. It is the ‘I’ in you; it is your SELF. It could be good or bad; It could be positive or negative. Self protects and defends itself. It is the greatest hindrance to submission, faith and obedience. Self loves to be independent. It loves to instruct but not to be instructed. It will always miss any good thing coming from God because it does not ‘see’ it. To deny SELF is one price that we must pay to possess God.

d)     Verse 22 “…he was sad at that saying and went away grieved, for he had great possession.”
How do you also want to respond all this juncture? To follow on with your cross, releasing self-life to possess eternal life or go away? The possession he had, hindered him from possessing God. Look at the misery of possessing any other thing but God: “…he was sad…” and went away from life, from the source of all good things, from the creator. He went away into outer darkness and gloom; went away into perdition “…Grieved” and joyless, embittered, restless and unsure of the future.
The question Jesus is asking you also now is “will you also go away” Jn. 6:67
e)      What are your great possessions that will rob you of possessing the Possessor of heaven and earth?
Mention them. Such possessions could be: your family name, title, education, husband, wife, children, circle of friends, materials possession, anything that makes you bleed and feel pain when it is touched in your life etc. If you are possessed by any of these, you cannot possess God.

f)       Discuss Mk. 10:23-27. What is Jesus’ stand on this matter? Did He run after that man?
The eye of a needle is small, fixed and rigid. Whatever must pass through must be soft and ready to adjust and change shape. You cannot pass through to enter into the kingdom of God and possess God unless you change your rigidity and lose your hold over your possession. You cannot pass through with your irregular shape caused by earthly stores and possession stored up for the future. As that man found it difficult to change and release your possessions, Jesus did not run after him. He lost the great Possessor of heaven and earth. Consider this and be wise.

g)      Discuss Mk. 10:28-31. Discover the Lord’s answer to Peter:… “there is no man that has left…”
What is the definite assurance here for everyone who has left all to possess God?
The Lord is faithful. He did not disappoint men of old who took this step. He will not disappoint you. According to His word, you shall receive a hundred of whatever you have left, in this world (with persecutions), and in the world to come, eternal life.

2.      THE EXAMPLE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST Phil. 2:5-11; Heb. 12:2-3
Analyze in these scriptures how Jesus Christ Himself fulfilled the same conditions and paid the full price of possessing God.
Note that Jesus never asked us to do what He Himself has never done. He teaches and trains men by His own life example. He was equal with God, yet He did not grab that status. He let it go. His self in this case was even good, yet He let it go. Sometimes even our God given status or ability has to be given up if we must possess Him more. When riches increase (even as God blesses us), set not your heart on it. Whenever God gives you something, you may use it for that time but you must be willing to drop it in order to be able to possess God, the Giver more and more.

3.      HOW DID OTHER SAINTS HANDLE THIS SAME PRICE OF POSSESSING HIM, WHO IS INVISIBLE?
a). Moses: Heb. 11:24-27
Moses had the privilege of being called Pharoah’s daughter’s son.
He had riches and honour. However in order to possess God and fulfill His call, he refused to be called Pharoah’s daughter’s son. He preferred to suffer afflictions with God’s people and gain God, rather than enjoy the riches of Egypt and lose God, his great possession. He forsook Egypt (the visible) because he saw Him who is invisible. He became a great vessel in God’s hand.

What are the pleasures and riches that could rob people of possessing God? What are the riches and pleasures that may likely rob you of possessing God?

b). Abraham: Gen. 12:1-4; Heb. 11:8-18
Abraham left all without questioning to go to where he did not know.
He endangered his life and the future security of his children. He had opportunity to return. So also are we going to have such. We must daily make up our mind not to return. As Abraham offered up Isaac, we must be willing to give up whatever we have even though we received it from God. Possessing God is not a one-time decision. We must continue to give up all in order to possess God.

Abraham died before he received the promise. What God promise may not come when you are alive. You must be so consecrated to God whether in living or in dying. Only this way will you possess Him.

c). Ruth: Ruth 1:8-19; 2:10-12; 4:13, 17-22
Ruth forsook her people and her gods to possess the God of Naomi. She preferred to remain a widow and a poor woman cleaving to God and His people than to cling to worthless idols. God eventually provided a husband for her and she became part of the genealogy of Jesus Christ our Lord.
“Those who cling to worthless idols forsake the grace that could have been theirs. ”(Jonah 2:8)
d). Elisha: 1 Kings 19:19-21; 2Kings 2:11-15
Elisha forsook all to pursue God. He left his big agricultural company to follow the Lord. He eventually possessed God and inherited the double portion of Elijah’s anointing.

e). Paul the Apostle: Phil. 3:3-9, 12-15
Paul also forsook all. He forsook his great tradition, position and certificates as a lawyer, his self-righteousness, and everything that was gain to him in order to possess Christ. He became a great vessel in God’s hand and a blessing to the whole world today.

CONCLUSION
What is it that would hinder you from paying the price of possessing the Possessor of heaven and earth? Over comers abound beyond the Gilgal shore, singing and cheering us to labour on and not to give up. What do you choose? David declared;
“As the deer pants for the water brooks so pant my soul for you, O God…”Psa. 42:1
