DAILY
QUIET TIME (24-2-2019)
I Peter 2:1-5
The Quiet Time is the time
you devote to have fellowship with God. It is the secret of victorious
Christian living. Those who fail in their Quiet Time soon grow cold and
backslide. On the other hand, an enriching and consistent daily Quiet Time is
will make your spiritual life powerful. For you to understand and see the need
for Quiet Time, you must first know the Lord (John 17:3; Matthew 4:4.). Bible
characters like Abraham (Genesis 19:27) and David (Psalm 5:3) profited from
this daily exercise.
PURPOSE OF THE DAILY QUIET
TIME. I Peter 2:1-2; Ephesians 6:10-12
(1)
To fellowship with God, Who desires this meeting more
than you do (John 4:23).
(2)
To grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord
Jesus Christ (I Peter 2:1-3; II Peter 3:18).
(3)
To receive daily strength and victory over sin, the
world, and the devil (Psalm 119:9,11; I John 4:4).
PREPARATION FOR DAILY QUIET TIME Proverbs 24:27
The morning is the best time for
your Quiet Time. Jesus had His own Quiet Time both in the morning (Matthew
14:23; Mark 1:35), and also in the night (Luke 6:12). To prepare for your
morning devotion:
(1) Go early to bed. Avoid eating or much
activity just before you go to bed.
(2) If required, set an alarm to wake you
up five minutes before your Quiet Time begins.
(3) Put away every distracting object, like
pictures, toys, etc.
(4) Come with a cleansed heart; be willing
to believe and obey everything you read in the word of God.
Also, get the following materials ready
for the Quiet Time (Habakkuk 2:1,2; Isaiah 8:1):
(1) The Bible. Make time for daily Bible
reading. Read it faithfully according to a set plan.
(2) A quiet place is very important, to
avoid interruption, so that you can read, meditate and pray.
(3) A notebook and a pen to write down
lessons, prayer points and answers or testimonies.
PATTERN FOR DAILY QUIET TIME Mark 1:35; I Peter 2:1-3; 2 Timothy 2:15.
Begin by praising God. Then pray that
God will guide you into His Word and teach you. Read your Bible systematically
(book by book, subject by subject, etc). After reading a Bible passage, ask
yourself the following questions: (1) Is there a command for me to obey? (2) Is
there an example to follow? (3) Is there an error to avoid or a sin to flee?
(3) Is there a promise to claim? (4) Is there any new lesson and thought about
God Himself? Write down answers to these questions and pray them into your
life.
The devil will do everything to hinder
you, but remember the Greater One is in you. Believe Him for victory everyday.
Never allow anything to hinder your Quiet Time. It is the secret to growth and
victory.
