DEVOTION TO CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP PART 2

DISCIPLESHIP TEACHING SERIES
Devotion to Christian Fellowship (Part 2)

Who should a Christian fellowship with and who should he not fellowship with?

  (1Jhn.1:3, 7; Mtt.7:16-20; 1Jhn.3:8-10; 2Cor.6:14-16; 1Cor.15:33; Eph.5:5-11.)
As a child of God, you should fellowship only with children of God; those who have believed in the word of life and are working in the light as the Lord Jesus Christ is in the light. You will know them by their fruits. What differentiates a child of God from a child of devil is the matter of sin. A child of God does not continue to sin. You must not fellowship with unbelievers. Even though you may be living together in the same community, do not fellowship with them. You have nothing actually in common. There is no fellowship between light and darkness; no agreement between a child of God and a child of devil. Do not share your life with them unless you are looking for disagreement, disappointment and troubles both in this life and eternity. Bad company corrupts good manners. Have nothing in common, not only with workers of darkness but also with works of darkness. Rather, expose them.

1)      With whom did the disciples of old fellowship? Acts. 2:41-47, 4:23-32, 11:27-30
It is clear that the disciples of old only fellow-shipped with themselves and among themselves. Their contact with the people of the world was with the gospel. It was only for the purpose of preaching the gospel to them that they made contact with unbelievers. They were salt and light to their generation. They were like sheep in the midst wolves but never learn the way and the language of the wolves.

2)    What is the basis of our having to fellowship with other Christians? Heb.2:11, Eph.4:3-6, 1Cor.12:12-17; Ps.133:1-3.
Our reasons for fellows-hipping together with other believers are the same as the reasons for our oneness. As children of God, we are members or parts of one body, the Body of Christ. Note the seven things we share together (Eph. 4:3-6). Discuss each of them. What does that teach you about the necessity of fellowship among us?
As discussed earlier on, we share many things in common as Christians. In fact, we are of the same stock; we share the same life. Flowing together in fellowship with other believers will enhance the unity of the Body of Christ. It will also cause the blessings and anointing of God poured on the Head (which is Christ) to reach you.
